Roger N. Baldwin Medal of Liberty Award
Human rights advocates throughout the world are encouraged to nominate individuals or organisations for the 2012 Roger N. Baldwin Medal of Liberty Award presented for exceptional commitment to international human rights in social networking and internet freedom, religious freedom, LGBT Rights, and/or freedom from torture. Named in honour of the principal founder of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the International League for Human Rights, the Award was established in 1989 and is presented in alternating years by Human Rights First and ACLU.
The USD25,000 prize will be presented in New York City, in the spring of 2012. Nominations are due 6 February 2012. For the nomination process and past recipients see the call for nominations.
Nansen Refugee Award Seeks Nominees
The Nansen Award Secretariat is seeking inspiring and deserving candidates for the 2012 Nansen Refugee Award (NRA). The award, named after the late Norwegian polar explorer and first High Commissioner for Refugees Fridtjof Nansen, was established by UNHCR to publicly recognise the work of extraordinary humanitarians and to draw international attention to issues of concern to refugees and displaced people.
Accompanied by a monetary prize of USD100,000 donated by the governments of Norway and Switzerland, the NRA funds a project to assist forcibly displaced people or to advocate for the refugee cause. Anyone who has demonstrated perseverance and courage or who personally, directly and significantly helps forcibly displaced people would be a strong nominee.
Call for Proposals on Migration and Integration Issues
The European Programme for Integration and Migration has a call for proposals for a limited number of grants for one to three years with budgets of EUR50,000 to EUR300,000 for European NGOs who are active on migration and integration Issues. Focus areas are: asylum seekers; undocumented migrants; and equality, integration and social inclusion of vulnerable migrants. Application deadline is 1 March 2012. East End London Award: Rayne Fellowships for Refugees
Do you have a big idea to change lives or transform your community? Praxis East End London is offering the Rayne Fellowships for Refugees, designed for refugees living in the UK who have a big idea that, with the right help, could flower. Rayne Fellows will receive support, resources and training to turn a vision into reality and make a difference in people’s lives.
Applicants must be 18 or over, and five recipients will be selected. They will be able to draw up to GBP15,000 to spend on personal development, training or education, resources, expert advice, one-to-one mentoring or attending networking events.
Applicants will have online and telephone help. The application form, a manual, and equal opportunities form can be found on the website. Deadline for applications is 9 March 2012 at 5pm.
